This is Brent Willock’s second book exploring the comparative-integrative perspective in psychoanalysis. Its unusual cover depicts a dream that Brent believes is Kohut’s, though Kohut claimed it was from a patient-colleague whom he was analyzing. Brent thoroughly explores this creation from multiple viewpoints, resulting in a fascinating investigation into the very nature of dreaming, in all its remarkable complexity. From the perspective of the evolution of scientific thought, a key idea in this book is that this nocturnal experience could represent Kohut, late in life, beginning to shift from his creative, antithetical position regarding classical psychoanalysis/ego psychology to a reconciliatory, synthesizing (comparative-integrative) position.
Brent Willock is the Founding President of the Toronto Institute for Contemporary Psychoanalysis. He is a faculty member in the Postgraduate Programs in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy at Adelphi University, Associate Editor for Psychoanalytic Dialogues, and e meritus Faculty & Board Member of the Canadian Institute for Child & Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. Brent has written and edited several psychoanalytic books.
