Intake

We are currently accepting new clients.

Over the years, we have found that clients that do well with our therapists are:

  • Stable enough to have held a job or be in school or another regular, scheduled activity for at least 6 months,
  • Have some extra income every month,
  • Are able to come to the clinic at least weekly for 18 months once assigned to a therapist who is a good fit for you, and
  • Are at least 18 years of age.

If you are taking medication for psychological symptoms, you must have access to your prescribing physician.

Please keep in mind that our therapists are beginning therapists. We are not able to provide services to clients who:

  • Are at risk of hospitalization
  • Are acutely suicidal
  • Have an active addiction
  • Are experiencing active psychosis or mania
  • Have a serious eating disorder, or are medically unstable

If you would like to explore treatment at the clinic, please submit a self-referral form by clicking here.

FAQ

When will I be able to see a therapist?

The clinic operates 7 days a week and 3 weekday evenings a week every week of the year. We are closed on Statutory holidays. We can work with about 250 clients at a time, so if there is room at the clinic, you may be seen within 3 weeks of requesting service.

Will I be put on a Wait list?

When all our appointments are committed, we put new people on the wait list with information about the times they can come for sessions.

What’s the intake process?

First, we will speak with you by phone to review the fit of your needs and our capabilities. This usually takes about 15 minutes.

The next step is to schedule an in-person intake interview at the clinic (427 Vaughan Road). This is a 45 minute session.

The last step is a phone call with our clinic coordinator to assign you or refer you to a therapist that’s a good fit for your needs. Please be sure to have your regular schedule with you for this phone call.

You will not be charged for any of the intake sessions.

Are you covered by my insurance?

The TICP Community Clinic is a student clinic. We charge for sessions and while the invoices and invoicing look like professional fees, the charges are for the clinic’s overhead. No professional collects typical fees in connection with the clinic.

These fees cannot be claimed against insurance because insurance insures services by regulated professionals, not hospitals, clinics, or educational institutes.

Do you offer virtual therapy?

We are an in-person clinic. Our student therapists are training for their in-person psychotherapy certification. As such, we require sessions to occur on-site at our clinic, located at 427 Vaughan Road.

We understand that emergencies happen and can accommodate occasional virtual sessions, but not as a regular practice.
